the general situation:
it's lord of the fucking rings! sometime during the third age before the war of the ring. in the year 2759 when saruman occupied orthanc, leroy can be quoted saying: "seems like a questionable idea." please note: leroy, though well read and generally knowledgeable about most things, is only really right about things once every millennia.
background info:
one of the maiar, sent to middle earth by the valar for some reason that he can't quite recall. named "the green" because of his green robes. known to wander, spend a lot of time with hobbits, drink a lot of tea, and smoke a lot of pipe weed. has a deep affinity for the hobbits (as stated) and the realm of rohan, most likely because they're really into horses.

leroy is hochadel (noble houses of the german empire), one of nine children born to reichsgraf (or graf, translated as: count) heinrich sommer. french on his mother's side and with plenty of other children to distract his parents, leroy left cologne for paris when he was fourteen to work as an apprentice to a dressmaker of note* (think house of worth).
at 26 years old, his designs are popular with three groups in particular: noble women, artists looking to paint their muses in something modern, and dancers at the moulin rouge.

the year is 1967 - the cold war has frozen over half the planet and the space race is speeding towards its climax. leroy sommer is one of many contracted to live in a small, pristine suburb outside of houston made up of nasa employees ranging from janitors to desk workers to engineers to astronauts.
what those living in the suburb don't know:
they're all actually in a simulation! based loosely off of vault 112 in fallout 3, where the inhabitants of vault 112 were placed in suspended animation and connected to a virtual reality simulator. all of the characters in this au are in a post-apocalyptic experiment of some kind (perhaps one conducted on the rich and famous?), where in real life they're all connected to one virtual reality through wires and tubes, but within the virtual reality are part of a utopian (read as: sinister) suburbia.

born in 1994, it's been hundreds of years since leroy first became a brain in a jar. one of the first wave of the rich and famous to have their brains frozen in some kind of science goo that was meant to preserve them for the duration of an especially destructive war, roy's brain in a jar is long past due its expiration date. who knows what keeps him going. maybe it's the sheer will to live, maybe it's the power of love, nobody can really say- and yet he lives! rumor has it that other sommer brains also exist in jars...
